Blinking Eye Publishing promotes the work of writers over the age of 50 through annual poetry and short story competitions.
To encourage and inspire you, we hope to continue to commission articles and creative work from the best of today's writers, when we have the funding to do so.

The winner of our 2007 short story competition was CAROLYN KIRK with 'Adrift' from Uppingham in Rutland. Congratulations Carolyn. The four commended entrants are Ginny Baily (George and the Goblin), John Bakewell (Josef's Sister), Chris Powell (The Russians are Drowning) and Bead Roberts (Letters to Freddie Mercury).
Congratulations to Sean O'Brien on winning the T S Eliot prize. We commissioned Sean for the Blinking Eye website in 2005.
Congratulations to Pat Winslow and our very own Jeanne Macdonald. They were both runners up in the prestigious 2007 Cardiff International Poetry Competition, judged by Owen Sheers and Kathleen Jamie. Pat Winslow was the winner of Blinking Eye's very first poetry competition in 2004. You can read Pat and Jeanne's poems at www.academi.org Pat has also won the Templar Poetry Pamphlet & Collection Competition.
Congratulations to Pat Borthwick, who was highly commended in our 2005 poetry competition, for being one of the three equal winners of the Templar Poetry Competition. She is also a prizewinner in the 2007 Scintilla and Manchester Cathedral poetry competitions. Her third full length collection is due out in October 2008 and she launched a pamphlet collection Wave in November 2007.
We are not running any competitions in 2008 but we would encourage you to enter the Mslexia Women's Poetry Competition (if you're a woman!). The judge is Carol Ann Duffy. 1st prize £1000, 2nd prize £500, 3rd prize £250. 22 other finalists will win £25 each. All winning poems will be published in Mslexia. Closing date: 25 April 2008. Entry fee: £5 for up to three poems. www.mslexia.co.uk
